About Barnt Green Cricket Club

The club runs 4 teams in the Birmingham & District Leagues on Saturdays and 2 teams in the Worcestershire Clubs Sunday League, as well as a thriving youth section.

Barnt Green Cricket Club was founded in 1888 and continues to play on the original ground in North Worcestershire, set in the beautiful rural surroundings at the foot of the Lickey Hills. In 1968 more land was acquired across Cherry Hill Road to develop a second ground and, in 1988, the main ground was levelled and enlarged to create the excellent arena we enjoy today.

The Club was marked as a Focus Club in 2003 and has subsequently obtained Clubmark accreditation. The monies obtained from the CCDF resulted in the completion of a 4 bay all-weather practice arena. The excellent facilities and the ability to field four Saturday teams, along with a thriving youth section - including girls' cricket - have been major factors in the Club's continued success over the past decade.

In the early 1970s Barnt Green was a founder member of the original Worcestershire Club Cricket Championship and enjoyed considerable success before it was invited to join the Midland Club Cricket Championship in 1989. Three league titles followed which resulted in election to the prestigious Birmingham League in 1995. This title was won at the very first attempt and again in 1997. The Club were runners-up in 2003 and 2004, and won the title for a third time in 2005.

In the National Knockout Competition, Barnt Green's success has been excellent in the last 10 years, reaching the final in both 2002 and 2005, and because of this have become a formidable knockout side gaining the respect of the other successful clubs throughout England and Wales. In 2006 Barnt Green was the ECB's number one ranked club based on these statistics.
